Sad news - Peter Hughes, aged 88, died on Saturday, 29th November 2025. He was Captain of Kersal in 1962/63. As a Dentist he retired from playing, joined the Madrefs and took up the whistle in 1963.
In 1978 he was appointed to the RFU International Panel and subsequently awarded a cap for refereeing over 25 full International matches. Kersal proposed him for the RFU Committee on which he served for 12 years.
He was elected Lancashire RFU President in 1996/7 and in 2007 received a Torch Trophy Trust Volunteer award. He was honoured with a BEM for services to Lancashire Schools Rugby in 2012. Not a bad CV.
The funeral will be for the immediate family and a memorial service will be held in the New Year. Date to be advised.
Our thoughts and sympathy go to Sue and the family.
