2XV return to winning ways vs Warrington with 32-12 win at Stelfox
much needed confidence boost for the 2's
Altrincham Kersal 2XV 32-12 Warrington 2XV
Altrincham Kersal 2XV returned home this weekend to play 3rd placed Warrington 2nd XV.
Taking momentum gained from recent weekends, things had been slowly slotting into place for Kersal and they started the match in fine form scoring out wide within the first 5 minutes through winger Aled Thomas, with the Jordan Roberts only narrowly missing the conversion by hitting the upright. Warrington soon responded to go 7-5 up by from then on in, Kersal never took a backwards step. Playing with fantastic structure, they scored twice more in the first half through fullback Jack Snoddy and centre Sean Clayton. Kersal continued to pile on the pressure further, being held up over the tryline on 3 separate occasions, going into the break 17-7 up and in a buoyant mood.
Keen to keep up the standard they had set themselves, Kersal showed some mammoth defence in the second half to keep the visitors at bay, as they extended their lead to 27-7. With changes in the pack with prop Stuart Cork coming on, Kersal were just as strong not taking a backwards step, allowing scum-half Andy Frain to fly down the blindside to set up Tom Sullivan for his first of 2 tries in the game. A sold set-piece from the pack and some winding runs from the backs continued to set up opportunities to put Kersal in the right area of the pitch to score. A try for Frain, linking up with wingers Aled and Josh Blammon, soon followed by an opportunistic interception by Tom Sullivan topped off the result as Kersal finished off 32-12 winners.
Tries: Aled Thomas, Sean Clayton, Jack Snoddy, Tom Sullivan (x2), Andy Frain
Conversion: Jordan Roberts (x1)
Their next match is in a fortnight’s time, again at home, versus the University of Liverpool Vets, in what promises to be a good weekend of rugby at Stelfox Avenue.
