Respect

The FA Respect programme is an innitiative launched and supported by the Football Association.

'Respect' is the collective responsibility of everyone involved in football to create a fair, safe and enjoyable environment in which the game can take place.

There are guides in place for Coaches, Players, Parents and Spectators. Please take time to read through the documents on this page and review the FA Respect website which include a number of videos that help to illustrate the need to have Respect.

On a practical level, there are a number of things you can do to observe the FA Respect guidelines;

- Always remain behind the barriers or cones. The FA guidelines state that supporters must remain behind the barrier on one side of the pitch and coaches and players must stand on the opposite side. No-one should be behind the goal.

- Do not abuse the referee or question their decision, even if mistakes are made. There has been a massive decline in the number of referee's in the game which makes it much harder to support junior football, and remember that how you act towards officials will encourage young players to act the same.

- Do not coach from the sidelines. Shout, encourage and praise the players but avoid telling them what to do or criticising if mistakes are made.
