A disappointing 2-2 draw at home against Latimer's 2nd team.
The captain advised that this game could be a banana skin and so it proved to be.
First to finish was Brian with a good win on board 1, hotly followed by a crushing win for Matt on board 4 continuing his fine form. Subsequently things were not looking so good on the other 2 boards - I was losing in quite a bad way and Mick looked fairly level but had the aces in hand.
2-0 up with 2 to play is an excellent position to be in usually but on this occasion it was not. I resigned after my opponent got two pawns to the 6th rank and then prayed by Bishop with a rook check which forced me to resign and feel sick.
Mick finished last - a flash back to last season where Mick found himself in the uncomfortable position of the team being 2-1 up with him to finish and everybody watching. In a level game, his opponent blundered by exchanging pawns on b5 and Mick had a plan - b3 followed by a4 and he wins by Queening his outside passed pawn. Unfortunately, b3 allowed his opponent to reply with b4 and totally pin Mick down and a couple of moves later
