Ards 3rds welcomed Larne to Hamilton Park on Friday for an Ulster arugby Regional Premier League match. Having played each other several weeks ago in a physical encounter at Larne and keen to put last week's away defeat to Ballymena behind them, Ards quickly stamped their authority on the game. The Ards pack dominated their opponents in the stormy weather, this provided the platform for the ards backline to put together some expansive back play despite the weather conditions.
There were several stand out performances in the pack with hooker Davy Reid and skipper Davy Thompson scoring two tries and back row Graeme Taylor scoring one. These three rampaging bulls gave Ards the go forward ball they needed. Another stand out in the pack was that of the recently crowned 'Young Butcher of the Year' Josh Robinson who smashed all in front of him.
In the backs the experienced half back pairing of Andy Matchett & Stewart Paul and centre pairing of Shane Stewart & Scott Young made life easy for wingers Bridge & Faloon to rack up another three tries. Stewart Paul at out-half had another superb performance pulling the strings and territorial battle.
Despite all the tries fullback Mark Banford left his kicking boots at his butcher's shop, thankfully his mate Scott Young was on hand to hit a drop goal conversion between the sticks.
Final score in the game 42-0 with 8 tries and a single drop goal conversion. Ards face a much more stern task in the quarter final of the McCambley Cup against Dromore at Hamilton Park on Saturday at 230pm
