Ards U14s 42 v Lurgan 19
Ards U14s took to the field for their first home match of the season facing a well drilled and experienced side from Lurgan. The first 15 minutes saw attack after attack from Lurgan with last gasp Ards tackles saving certain scores.
The pressure took its toll on the young Ards side and after well worked move from a Lurgan scrum in the centre of the field the slick Lurgan backs crossed for a deserved try.
This was the catalyst that opened the floodgates and Lurgan seem to be able to score at will. Ards’ defence was scrambling left and right in an attempt to hold back the flood of Lurgan attacks and reached half time with Lurgan leading 30-0.
A revigoured Ards took Lurgan by surprise at the start of the second half, they chased the kick off hard and new debutant Charlie Durham was driving and taking the game to the opposition with the pack following the example of pack leader Dylan Jones who was putting his body on the line.
The backs through Matthew McBride linked well and moved the ball well through the hands with the Milligan brothers going over for well deserved tries.
The tempo stayed high with some end to end rugby and last gasp tackles. A great display from this fledgling U14 team, who showed some real sprit and never say die Ards attitude.
Final score: Ards 19 v Lurgan 42
