In what seems to have taken an age since the draw 2 weeks ago tomorrow afternoon will see Arlesey Take part in the Biggest game in the clubs History. it is the first time they have ever taken on Npower league opposition and there hoping to do themselves proud.
For Only the second time in the clubs history Arlesey will compete in the First Round of the FA Cup and it couldnt have been much more impressive than an away tie to Coventry City.
25 years ago Coventry City who play in League 1 Won the FA Cup Against Spurs in a 3-2 Win on that has been dubbed one of the top 12 classic FA Cup Finals but now after a few difficcult years the club face the blues in there first First Round tie for almost 50 years.
Coventry Play At The Ricoh Arena just north of Coventry City Centre and currently sit 4th from bottom of the Npower League One Table with 14 points.
Arlesey have had to come through 4 Qualifying rounds to progress to this stage, with Barton, Dulwich Hamlet, Brackley and Didcot all being the defeated teams where as this will be the first game in the competition for Coventry This Year. Coventry have lost to Non League Oposition before in the Competition and for a few this tie has brought back memories of Sutton the non league team who beat them not long after there FA Cup glory.
Many will see this with different minds, some may say its a huge banana skin for Coventry and a giant killing in the making. Some people may think that Coventry Will walk all over Arlesey and score a hatfull. But what everyone will Agree is that these type of games are what make The FA Cup the greatest domestic cup competition in the world. Where else could you see a small town side like Arlesey with around 6,000 residents, Take on the Likes of Coventry City, previous winners of the cup and a stadium with an away end which could fit the whole population of Arlesey in it. . . Only in the FA Cup.
