Ashbourne returned to League action last weekend, making the small journey to Belper.
They were with out skipper Robyn Wright who was unavailable, so Tight Head prop Ian Jones
took over the captaincy for the day, hoping to come back with a win.
Ashbourne had a few new faces mixed with some old faces such as Hooker Paul Birkett
& Loose Head Prop, Paul Kellow
. Simon Spencer
also returned to the club having spent some time at Burton upon Trent, having a strong game in the centre.
The away team started very well with a couple of early tries coming from Stuart Lemon
and Jim Slater
, then as usual, Ashbourne sat back and allowed Belper to come back in to the game, eventually scoring a try for themselves.
The second half & Ashbourne were playing down hill & started to get back on top of the game with some powerful breaks from Mikey Allen
& his brother Tom, in fact Ashbourne played 85% of the game in Belper’s half. This resulted in another storming try from Flanker Stuart Lemon
which was converted by Fly Half Johnny Birkett
was eventually rewarded from all his hard work, with a try in the corner to finish off the game.
Ashbourne now sit at the top of the table having played 6, won 6 and have 27 pts.
They return to league action on the 1st December away at Matlock.
