A convincing win for a modified Reds team

A new look Ashby Reds side posted a comprehensive 38 run win against a competitive Shepshed team. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first the Ashby opening batsmen got off to a flyer with some impressive running, scoring 32 off the first 3 overs. Carson Mendel was left to steady the ship after losing both openers LBW in quick succession. The captain, Luca Fasci, increased the run rate significantly with a quick fire 26, which brought about his enforced retirement. Some lusty blows from Joe Barlow and some steady batting from Will Lacey took the total to 139-5 off the 20 overs.
Joe Barlow made an early in-road claiming the wicket of one of the Shepshed openers and Lewis Dutton, after having some early problems with his run up, returned figure on 1-14 from 3 overs. Luca Fasci (1-2) and Carson Mendel (2-4) broke the back of the Shepshed reply supported by some tight bowling from Bode Pattinson-Carter and Max Walker which ensured that the Ashby total was out of reach. A special mention for Max Rabone who took the Ashby Reds catch of the season (to date) taking a sharp chance at gulley and also Arun Mattu who returned figures of 2 overs 0-9 on debut.
