Not the best start

With shrinking availability as the injured list from the 1s selection squad grows the resulting team saw 3 debutants in a squad of 13.

Making their first appearance in the 1s, Rob Forster, Rob Grant and Callum Tickner, who all to their credit performed at the level required, Callum eventually getting the nod for Man of the Match.

The older hands however left some to be desired. In traditional Ashford style the start of the game could only be referred to as shaky and after the first 35 Newbury were up by 2.

The Red and Blacks mounted a valiant charge and after short corners created by Davis and du Boulay, ur Rehman was able to make magic from his first two attempts on the day.

Back in the game we pressed Newbury and earned another 2 PCs which both were inches wide. Then showing maybe a lack of experience the team continued to press instead of consolidating and the resulting mistakes were penalized by Newbury with 3 more goals.

All three finding custodian Huse alone in Newbury company and not being up to the task.

The boys settled into the last ten minutes and found a reply through another ur Rehman finish from a PC. Only to see another defensive blunder leave Huse at the mercy of Newbury one last time.
