Another shutout for 'Huge & Co'

After a nail biting 2-2 draw at The Lane last week against the pace setters, the mighty Red and Blacks were looking to continue their undefeated run at home.

A stereotypically cold and wet November day at The Lane did not dampen the confidence or spirits, as Ashford controlled the game from the off, with some fantastic penetrating runs from Tom Pitfield which almost led to an opening goal. The pressure was mounting on the oppo with chances a plenty.

Ashford couldn’t quite convert which looked to be costly as Witney broke and gained a short corner, with an interesting Ric Flair WOOOOOOOOOOO to celebrate, which they then failed to convert. The capacity crowd and Ashford Ultras jumped on this and condescendingly mimicked the WOO for every Ashford short corner for the rest of the game.

Mounting pressure told and after a few rounds of not scoring which for Shuey is a drought beyond comprehension, he slotted one home past the Witney keeper who made some fantastic saves in the first half to do his best to keep the sides level.

The second half brought more of the same with great control and s***housery from Charlie “the scoundrel” Cottrell in the midfield, with some tenacious tackles from Matt “pretty” Law The rest of the back line following suit and acting like the great Wall of China by not giving Witney a sniff at goal.

However, Ashford failed to further convert the lions share of possession and Witney started to carve out a few chances for themselves, which made the Red and Blacks keen to kill off the game. And we did, the towards the end of the albeit, with a great team goal starting with a turnover in the middle with great counter control pass from Matt Sutch to Shuey, where Siya slithered in to take the ball round the keeper into the back of the net.

Another 3 points in the bag, Ashford 1’s climb to 3rd in the league and looking forward to going away to Reading for the penultimate game this side of Christmas.
