A 2ND HALF SEIGE WAS NOT ENOUGH TO GRAB ASHTON THAT VITAL GOAL

Ashton went into this game full of confidence after only 1 defeat in 7 and scoring goals for fun, Bacup on the other hand were on the back of four consecutive defeats.
The managment kept faith in the side that had defeated Runcorn Linetts on Saturday and were strengthened on the bench with the return of club captain Mike Wood and Loius Edwards.
With a strong wind in their faces, Ashton struggled for any consistency with passes going astray time and time again, when they did finally get into a decent postion the final ball wasnt good enough as Bacup easily soaked up any pressure the yellows threw ath them, the only real chance falling to Ryan Small but his close range effort was well saved from O'Boyle in the opposition goal.
HT 0-0
The second half started with Ashton taking the game to Bacup who were sporting one of the most bizarre away kits ive ever seen (pink). Early chances fell to Holden and Kay with the latter seeing his low shot tipped around the post from the impressive O'Boyle. With 60 minutes on the clock it was that man again Luke Holden who saw his header parried away for a corner.
Ashton made 3 substitutions in a 10 minute period to try and push on and search for that elusive goal as they sent on Howard, Watson and Downing.
With time running out Ryan Small had a header saved when it seemed easier to score, a few more half chances went begging before the official blew his whistle for full time to end the game.
Ashton will see this as 2 points lost, with Colne dropping points this will hurt like a loss to the boys.

Everyone at Ashton will also like to wish Bacup skipper Shane Birtles a speedy recovery as he suffered a broken leg tonight.
