Ladybridge FC 0 Ashton Athletic 4

Ashton Athletic 18's secured their place in a 4th successive Lancashire Cup semi final by beating Ladybridge FC 4 goals to nil, having of course won the competition for the last 3 seasons.
The quarter final was played away at Ladybridge's on their 3G pitch.
Ashton took the lead half way through the first half with a great run down the left from Matt Reid, beating two players and sending over a perfectly flighted cross to the far post. Taylor Cain got on the end of it and slotted home to make it 1 nil.
Ladybridge continued to press well and worked hard to make the game difficult but Ashton had the more decisive attacks, from one of these Sam Oyeniyi was pushed from behind inside the penalty box and the referee awarded a penalty.
Despite the Ladybridge keepers best efforts to delay the penalty kick, Dec McLoughlin was unphased and stroked the ball home into the centre of the goal as the keeper dove to his left.
The score remained at 0-2 to Ashton until half time.
The second half saw a number of changes to both sides but still Ladybridge couldn't get back into the game.
The 3rd goal saw the hard working Sam Oyeniyi get his just rewards as the ball fell to him around 10 yards out and he shot past the approaching keeper. 0-3
Ladybridge continued to battle and were awarded a penalty as their striker, travelling at pace collided with the diving Matty Shorrocks. The striker went down and the referee had no choice but to award the pen.
This could have been a potential lifeline for Ladybridge but for a superb save, down to his right by Shorrocks in the Ashton goal!
The squad was rotated more and it wasn't long before Ashton made it 4 goals to nil. A cross from the right saw their keeper spill the ball and after a scramble in the 6 yard box Leiden McLean finished easily.
A superb win for Ashton Athletic in this latest campaign.
Man of the Match was Dec McLoughlin but the whole squad were top quality throughout the 90 minutes.
Well done boys and well deserved.
