Ashton Athletic 18's played their 2nd game in 4 days when they faced Morecambe at Brocstedes Park. The game followed a disappointing loss in midweek 3-2 against AFC Fylde, despite having a 2 goal lead. In that Fylde game the goals were scored by Matt Reid and Taylor Cain.
Morecambe started the game brightly, looking well organised and worked hard on and off the ball. Indeed they had the best of the early exchanges but probably against the run of play Harry Johnson broke down the left, cut in and slotted the ball past the keeper for Ashton to take the lead.
The second goal was a top quality strike from Aaron Simpson. A long range effort from 25 yards giving the keeper no chance down to his right hand side.
Morecambe could count themselves unlucky to be 2-0 down at half time even missing a penalty just before the break.
The second half was better from the Yellows as they took the game to Morecambe. Another quality goal helped put the result beyond doubt as Sam Oyeniyi broke from midway in the Morecambe half, holding off the defender he rounded the keeper and passed the ball into the net to make it 3-0 and cap a superb display from the striker.
Morecambe did get a goal back but it was too late to make a difference and no more than a consolation.
The result moves the young Yellows back to 4th spot in the North West Youth Alliance Premier Division.
Full Time Ashton Athletic 3 Morecambe 1.
Man of the Match Sam Oyeniyi.
