After a disappointing defeat in midweek, Ashton Town look forward to some home comforts as they host the Champions.
Town lost 3-1 away at Holker Old Boys on Wednesday night, but welcome Atherton Colleries to Edge Green Street this Saturday.
Chairman Mark Hayes said: “It’s never ideal to make such a long trip midweek and with it not being on a normal match day, we had lots of players unavailable.”
He also added: “The lads selected did great though, Holker got two early goals as our players settled. The effort was faultless.”
However, Town now move on to this weekend’s fixture. Hayes will be hosting 30 people from Mossley Hill Hopsital who suffer from Dementia and are well looked after by the health service.
As a token of respect, the club Chairman is providing them with complimentary food and drink whilst they enjoy the game for free.
The newly crowned North West Counties Football League Division One Champions are the opponents.
Hayes said: “As soon as the whistle goes though, all the admiration goes out the window. It will be a hard 90 minutes but by the end of it they will know they’ve been in a game.”
