Robins Welcome New Faces

These appointments will bring about a step change to the club
Chairman Terry Hollis

In an effort to sustain and build upon the progress made over recent years, Ashton United FC is delighted to announce the appointment of two new Directors to the Board. Father and son, David and Jonathan Burke, bring to the club a wealth of business experience, with both very successful in their chosen fields, albeit vastly different disciplines. David is a local businessman with interests in property, construction, and IT whereas Jonathan, now London based, works in theatre and television as a writer, actor and producer under the name Jonathan Sayer. He is the Company Director of Mischief Theatre Ltd working in both the UK and internationally.

Club Chairman Terry Hollis said, ‘I am absolutely delighted to welcome David and Jonathan to the Board. We have been looking for some time to bring in, not just anybody to make up the numbers, but people with the right fit. With a family affinity to the Robins, father/grandad John played and captained Ashton United in the 60’s, both have strong links to the club and the local community. Their business acumen and contacts will prove invaluable to Ashton United and I firmly believe we can look forward to an exciting future. These appointments will bring about a step change to the club.”

In fact the late Johnny Burke is the current Club record appearance holder with 410 games (19 goals) making his debut on 19th August 1953 to his last appearance on 16th April 1964.

Speaking on behalf of his father and himself about the appointment Jonathan Burke said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be joining the club, having grown up watching Ashton United both my dad and myself are looking forward to working with the rest of the executive to create an exciting period for the club and the local community. Up the Robins!”
