The club recently donated some junior kit to a school in Tanzania - Isamilo International School Mwanza. My sister Lorna Stokes has been teaching there for 2+ years. It’s great to see the kids excited in their new new kit and enjoying their introduction to Rugby. Thanks to Jon Hilton (Junior Chairman) for donating the kit.
The Saturday School is an outreach programme run by a couple of teachers and Y10- Y13 pupils . It’s aim is to provide access to resources , new skills and new experiences for local children who have very little and to offer them fun and enjoyment in their learning ?

Our boys and girls have been having a great time over the last couple of weeks learning how to play tag rugby. Even though rugby is well established in other parts of East Africa, it is not well known here in Tanzania. Heartfelt thanks to Ashton-On-Mersey RUFC for gifting us shirts, shorts and rugby balls and to Patrick Stokes for making it happen .One of the aims of Saturday School to provide new experiences and enjoyment for our local children and as our photos show, the children had a great time getting used to handling a rugby ball .They love learning this new sport and felt very special wearing the kits. Next week they will attempt their first proper game of tag rugby .....wearing their kits .
