Every 20 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer. That's 4 people in a single rugby match. Blood cancer doesn't discriminate, it affects mums, dads, brothers, sisters and your mates. However, there is a cure for blood cancer... you. A blood stem cell donation is often the only hope for a patient in need.
50% of patients will not find a matching donor.
More donors are required in the UK for patients in need, internationally, especially young men. Male donors are generally preferred as they produce more blood stem cells than females, yet the girls outnumber the boys 2:1 on the UK registry.
It also costs £40 to register a single donor onto the UK registry.
On 3rd October, in our league match against Greenwich, Askean RFC will be supporting Delete Blood Cancer and raising awareness of the need for more young male donors, recruiting more donors onto the UK registry and raising funds to enable more donors to be recruited.
If you are aged between 17-55 and healthy, then you could be eligible to register. For more information, please go to www.deletebloodcancer.org.uk
