• The Christmas Pop Up Sale at Bower Park organised by the Charity Shop last weekend was a great success. So much so that plans are already being drawn up for a repeat performance when the Christmas Season is in full swing. Further details to follow.
CHRISTMAS POP UP SHOP BREAKING NEWS : The small pot I purchased with the nice cockerel on it to house my paperclips [SEE PICTURE] turned out to be a rare Ming wine cup worth about £20 million. Not bad for 50p. This of course will be my last Sunday update for some time.
• Applications for the role of Bar Manager are now CLOSED. Applicants will be appraised and, where applicable, interviews arranged. However, there is still time to register interest ahead of any final decision. If this is you please contact Barney direct on 01697320285.

And finally an observation that Craig my RL colleague may wish to take up on the Hornets site.
I have enjoyed the Australian play-off games but note that they have retained the scrum as a method of restarting the game. The English game, reacting to Covid 19, has dispensed with this in favor of a simple turn over. In my view the English game benefits from this and for once it might be something we could export to the Oz game rather than always letting them take the lead. What do you think?

• Recommended reading : A previous article on British Lion, Frank Handford. Providing just one more reason to speculate that the decline of the Aspatria Agricultural College was a disaster for the town. Let us hope Newton Rigg does not go the same way.
• The discovery of a British Lion to stand alongside Tosh Holiday has cemented the club’s place as a LIONS ORIGIN CLUB. This allows Canterbury our kit supplier to add a special logo to club apparel. A full range is available for viewing and purchasing at https://rugbygear.co.uk/collections/aspatria-rufc Will make a brilliant Christmas gift for the rugby fanatic in your life.
• When times return to some kind of normality the club are looking to partner up with Liz’s Country Kitchen and host speciality food nights. Could be anything from a Chinese House Party to Born in the USA. Details will follow when we are all in position to proceed.
• No league rugby until January at the earliest. A big disappointment with the playing squad champing at the bit to get going. We are also now aware that the planned league restructure will be agreed but not implemented before season 2022 / 23. This early announcement by the RFU is a common sense decision and has been widely welcomed.
• Park Run at Bower Park. This is still very much on the cards but the start has been delayed by Covid. However, when restrictions are lifted the organisers are near set to go. A test run is being organised in the near future. The club is playing its part by exploring improvements to the agreed route. We hope to announce more in the coming weeks when talks with grant providers are concluded.
