A full-round-up of all the winners

Immediately following the formalities of the 130th anniversary presentation and the post-Cockermouth game man-of-the-match drink-off and speeches, the club’s annual Awards Ceremony was conducted.

Craig Hamilton spoke briefly about the trials and tribulations of the 2021 season and paid a heartfelt vote of thanks to all those who have supported the club, not only in 2021, but in the past decade; players, fans, sponsors and volunteers.

The winners were all deserved but, as with any prize giving, some tough decisions were made with several players in contention to win some awards. Luke Crossman and Ross Barton scooped several awards each but it is always worth noting that individual brilliance is only made possible by the efforts of the collective.

Veteran prop forward, Steven Carruthers, aka Smelly to most who know him, was awarded a special ‘Dinosaur’ award to recognise his longevity and self-proclaimed title of oldest prop in the league.

Rugby Football League Vice President, Mike Smith, was presented with a Hornets tie and he praised the efforts of the club and wished the best for the future.

In a lovely final touch, Guy Reed paid tribute on behalf of the players to Algie Reynolds for his unceasing work on the pitch and facilities.
