Aston Old Edwardians 10 - 40 Upton on Severn

After a good bonfire party and a full bar the previous evening Aston faced Upton, who are from the equivalent league on the other side.

Aston had to tackle the slope in the first half and the game began with a safe catch by Andy Coveney who has shown great improvement in a short time. However, most of the ball ended up in the hands of the visitors in the early stages and a knock on from Aston led to Upton's first try which they could not convert. They followed this with a second with good passing and support, particularly from the backs, opening a twelve point lead.

Aston then began to get a share of ball and put together some positive passages and they stayed in the game with better tackling and evidence of greater commitment. Upton came with a balanced team, without many stars but with an ability to string their plays together with proper purpose and they made a third try before Aston truly exerted themselves and scored a fine try of their own through Sean Sandford who went in from twenty metres after an impressive build-up.

At half time the score was 19-5 to the visitors and Aston were to make use of the slope in the second period.

They bashed away with Tom Thomas and the student contingent doing well throughout but it was Paul Bradley who crossed for Aston's second try after a series of rucks close to the Upton line with the conversion going wide. Upton continued to secure good possession and notched up two more tries before the finish but Aston can take some pride in a better all-round performance upon which they can build.
