match report

Aston won the toss and went uphill receiving the kick in the first half. The kick off was well taken and Aston cleared. This led to 20 minutes of sustained pressure from the Essington pack who repeatedly crashed the ball into the Aston defence. The home side's defence held well but eventually the pressure told and penalties were conceded. Essington converted to give a 3-0 lead.

Aston eventually started to win some ball and tried to spread it wide to the wingers. After some initial unsuccess the backs used the centre partnership of Dave Roberts and Craig Williams to gain valuable yards. A penalty was won and converted by Ian Lyons.

Following the kick off, Essington's 10 and 12 started to use their boot and kick to the corner. Both players were superb all day and thankfully Chevel Taylor controlled the back 3 superbly and took the right option each time. One such kick led to a blistering run from Chevel who surged into the opposition 22'. A penalty was conceded and the home side kicked to the corner. A strong maul led to Remmy scoring in the corner. Conversion missed 8-3.

Aston went down to 14 men before half time due to a high elbow charge from the prop. The curse of the second hit again and the kick off was badly dealt with by Aston. A period of great pressure led to a score from Essington. 8-8.

The home side responded well and Ian Lyons and Dave Roberts started kicking well. From good territory Ian Lyons fed the ball to a charging Ethan Channer who scored. Conversion scored 15-8. Aston then started using the ball well and feeding the wingers. Kieran Burke scored twice on his return to the first team.

In the last 20 minutes, Remmy scored a superb try from a strong carry in midfield. The final try fell to Ethan Channer who scored a potential try of the season after picking up at 8 and going the length of the field. Essington scored a last consolation try and the game finished 37-13. A much needed bonus point win and the man of the match was Sam Turton.
