Atherstone Town made a perfect start to the new season this week, winning their first two home games.

The first win came in the season opener on Saturday, as the Adders came from behind to beat Dudley Sports 2-1 at the Pointons Community Stadium.

Atherstone fell behind early in the game, after a Dudley free kick deflected off an Atherstone head and into the back of the net after just ten minutes.

The home side reacted well to the early shock, and soon settled into good spells of possession inside the Dudley half.

It would be Lewis Collins who would bring the Adders back into the game just before the break. A fine move was finished off brilliantly when Collins volleyed Perry Cottons cross into the top corner.

In the second half, it was Atherstone who dictated the play, but they would have to wait until late in the game for the go ahead goal.

Cotton was again the provider, crossing perfectly again for captain Jamie Hood to touch down and calmly finish to send the Atherstone faithful home happy.

And the home fans would not have to wait long to watch their side again, as Atherstone were in action again on Tuesday night. This time around they would secure a 4-1 victory in a local derby with Nuneaton Griff.

Yet again the Adders would have to show off their powers of recovery, after falling behind to a goal inside 2 minutes following a mix up at the back.

Despite dominating for large periods after the goal, and creating plenty of chances, Atherstone would have to wait until the second half to draw level.

Josh Ruff was the man to provide the equaliser, smashing the ball into the roof of the net from close range following a cross from the left hand side.

Just 15 minutes after this the Adders would take the lead, as Ryan Quinn rifled in a shot from the edge of the area following an excellent run from Lewis Collins.

Chris Cowley would then make it 3-1 with another well taken goal, curling a left footed effort in off the base of the post.

Collins would complete the scoring late on, showing excellent desire to out muscle the goal keeper, before finish on the swivel at close range.

All in all, a perfect start to the season for Atherstone Town, who have shown grit as well as their quality on the pitch.

Next up is another double header, as the Adders travel to Bilston Town on Saturday, and then host Chelmsley Town on Tuesday night.
