Round 9 - Volcanoes take on the league leaders Zamantix Rovers

A few changes to the Volcanoes line up today -
Out: Club Captain Dan Casteljin out due to suspension, Doug Haines in at CB
In: Luke Turner (returning from suspension) and Paul Reilly.

The AV's today lining up with 3 Central midfielders and 2 wide men, leaving the veteran strike Rory O'Sullivan up front.

Volcanoes with the kick off and it was clear from the start that the away side were up for this one, Ash Barnett immediately causing a nuisance of himself down the right hand side. The pressure continued for the first 10 with the AV's showing some good possession and patience play.
The deadlock was broken around the 15 minute mark after a Luke Turner free kick found the head of Paul Reilly, the flick was saved and the ball cleared only as far a Rory O'Sullivan whose strike found its way through the crowded area to put the Volcanoes 1-0 up.

The pressure continued from the Volcanoes and with 30 mins gone a perfectly weighted through ball from Rory O'Sullivan found Ash Barnett one on one with the Zamantix keeper, a cool calm and collected finish from the youngest to increase the lead to 2-0.

Half Time

Zamantix were determined to turn the game around and had really been only been limited to long range shots in the first 45 mins, this continued at the start of the second, 50 mins gone and their #10 had the ball to feet from 18 yards out and hit a great strike which ended up in the top right hand corner 2-1

2 minutes later, Matthew Montgomery in possession picked out Bobby Collins, with some slick footwork Bobby carried the ball inside the 18 yard box and was hacked down by the Zamanitix left back. Penalty given, Rory O'Sullivan to take and score extending the lead back to two. 3-1

The away side continued to keep up the high pressure and the next opportunity came as a result of that determination, Ash Barnett winning a header, Matthew Montgomery then picking up that ball skipping past one to release Rory O'Sullivan one on one, the Irishman then slotting home for his hat-trick.
Final score 4-1

A very strong performance from the Volcanoes and great to see the team finding a system that seems to suit.
Man of the match was Ash Barnett, he was a constant threat from start to finish and great to see him get top it off with a goal.
