Aveley 2 vs 1 Waltham Forest
Waltham Forest pose a familiar threat to Justin Gardner’s Millers with the two sides competing in the same division, but Wale Ojelbali’s side have had a difficult time so far this season, winning just one of their first six games.
In comparison, Aveley have only lost one of their first six games and have won three on the spin thanks to wins against Chatham, Romford and Brentwood.
However, as player/coach Adam Flanagan pointed out following the bank holiday Monday win over Brentwood, “the F.A. Cup is a different entity,” so you can be assured that Gardner will not allow his players to drop their level with prize money and a game against Canvey Island in the next round at stake.
Justin Gardner has said on Twitter this week that he would love a cup run and he will look to improve on reaching the 2nd qualifying round as his side did last season thanks to wins against Whitton United and Hadleigh United, before the Millers were dumped out by Margate.
Replicating that run and going a little bit further will be a tough ask with Ryman Premier side Canvey Island awaiting the winners, but the Millers will be boosted in their attempts by the return of their player’s player and fan’s player of last season, Jay Leader.
The Millers though will have to make do without their captain, Billy Holland, and Junior Appiah who are both suspended following red cards against VCD Athletic and Redbridge respectively.
Michael Begg is still a doubt with a foot injury whilst Sammy Knott is still struggling with a hamstring injury so is likely not to be risked.
And Gardner will be hoping that Kallon Nurudeen has fully recovered from a bout of food poisoning that kept him out of the win against Brentwood, after having to play Mathias Bakare out of position at right back last Monday.
Tickets are £9 for adults, £6 for OAPs, £3 for children unaccompanied by an adult and £1 for children accompanied by a paying adult.
