Aveley aim to sting the Bees.

Aveley return to action tonight as they look to get back to winning ways against Basildon United.

The Millers have drawn five league games on the bounce and now find themselves in fifth position in BetVictor North heading into this evening’s game against the Bees.

On Saturday, Keith Rowland’s outfit picked up a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Soham Town Rangers.

The visitors fell behind thanks to Sam Mulready’ 15th minute strike, and try as they may, they couldn’t find a way past home goalkeeper Josh Pope.

Things got worse when Alex Akrofi was dismissed for a late tackle with 20 minutes to go, but the Millers kept battling away and Tom Richardson was felled in the box to earn a penalty five minutes from time.

Shad Ngandu kept his cool and slotted home the spot kick to ensure a point apiece, and ending on a high, will give Aveley the boost going into tonight’s game.

Basildon come into the game in 19th spot in the table, with 23 points from their 24 games and last time out lost 3-1 at the hands of Tilbury, in a game played at Parkside due to the Bees’ Gardiners Close pitch being unplayable at the moment.

They took the lead against the Dockers at the weekend thanks to Khadean Campbell’s seventh-minute effort.

However, Tom Barton levelled matters on 32 minutes for the visitors, and Brian Moses put them in front three minutes later. Barton added a second with eight minutes left on the clock to seal the game.

Alex Salmon’s side have picked up seven points from their last six games, and did push Folkestone Invicta to penalties in the Velocity Trophy last Tuesday in a game also played at Parkside.

LAST TIME OUT

The Bees dumped the Millers out of the Essex Senior Cup by the odd goal in three.

The visitors fell behind through a Harry Gibbs own goal with just seven minutes on the clock, before Ernest Okoh made matters worse a minute before half time.

There was still time for the Millers to pull one back before the break though, through Jon Nzengo, and try as they may in the second period they were unable to break the stubborn Bees down, including a Clark Bogard save from an Alex Akrofi penalty just after the interval.
