AVELEY hosted new tenants Romford and although many chances were created, none were converted.
Rod Stringer decided to rest many players that took part in Wednesday’s friendly and used the encounter to give other players a chance.
Joel Barnett earned the first real Millers’ attack of the match but blazed his shot wide of the mark.
Romford’s main attacking threat was former Barkingside front man Brian Suchley, and missed the target twice in quick succession.
A good flowing move, involving both Wayne Vaughan and Bradley Barnes almost resulted in the first goal but Barnett’s header flashed just wide of the goal.
Come the second half and both sides were cancelling each other out and Millers’ boss Stringer changed things about with several substitutions.
One of those subs, Des Gallen saw his shot deflected behind for a corner whilst with just under a quarter of an hour to go Andy Oxby’s shot from just inside the box forced Boro’ keeper Neil Finn saved the day with another fine save.
Gallen was denied once more by Finn before fellow sub Ainsley Gasper swivelled in the box before producing a shot which went straight into Finn’s arms.
And in a final flurry, the Millers’ put the ball into the back of the net but John Bradley’s striker was ruled out for off side.
The Millers’ continue their pre-season when they host Ryman 1 South side Sittingbourne on Monday with a 7.45pm kick off.
