Aveley 2 Sittingbourne 1

LEON DIACZUK’S injury time penalty was enough to see the Millers’ take the spoils against Sittingbourne in Aveley’s penultimate pre-season friendly.

Ryman Division 1 South Sittingbourne proved competitive opposition for the Millers’ despite missing a few players.

And the visitors hit the bar mid way through the first half before the Millers’ opened their account for the night.

Petric Elbi continued his rich vein of pre-season form slotting in another goal after good work from Joao Carlos after 35 minutes.

Elbi could have doubled his and the Millers’ tally on the stroke of half time but the diminutive striker shot wide of the mark when through on goal.

After the break, Sittingbourne caught the Millers’ cold and they levelled the match when former Dartford front man Tom Bradbrook intercepted Christian Wheeler’s back pass and stroked the ball past James Marrable.

The Kent side were posing several problems to the Millers’ back line and Aveley could count themselves lucky when they just managed to clear Richard Brady’s header off of the line.

But that proved to spark the Aveley into life and both Sean Thomas and Diaczuk went close for the Millers’.

However, The Millers were caught napping and Eli Kayembe almost gave Sittingbourne the lead but his shot came back off of the cross bar and was gladly cleared to safety.

Aveley had the last laugh though as Leon Diaczuk slotted the ball into the net from the penalty spot in injury and proved to be enough to give the Millers’ the victory on the night.
