AVELEY put on a strong performance to beat Ryman 1 North side Waltham Abbey.
The home side went closest first through Joe Ebuel but his shot was wide of the target and Marc Gobel saw a header cleared off the line for the Millers.
But it wasn’t until four minutes before half time that the deadlock was broken, with Danny Slatter’s left footed shot beating keeper Harry Ricketts low into the corner of the net.
And on the stroke of half time the lead doubled as after a breakaway Clydie Roberts was free of the Abbotts defence and he slotted past Ricketts.
Abs Thomson added a third for the Millers after the break as David Knight’s persistence and hard work paid off snatching the ball from Andy Keepence and finding Abs Thomson who slotted underneath the keeper.
Abbey managed to get themselves on the scoresheet when Keepence scored from close range after Lloyd Anderson blocked the intial effort.
But in an action packed opening the Millers scored their second of the half through Thomson again with his turn and shot beating Ricketts.
The changes came after that and the Millers went close to adding to their tally through Billy Holland and Alex Rhodes.
Aveley round off their pre-season with a trip to Harlow Town on Saturday.
