AVELEY ensured their passage into the next round of the Essex Senior Cup with a comfortable win over Tilbury.
Both sides weren’t at their best but the Millers done just about enough.
It was the home side that took the lead through Chris Stowe as the Aveley defence failed to deal with simple ball into the box.
Kurt Smith got Aveley back into the game with a neat lob over keeper Dean Driscoll after 40 minutes and took the lead on the stroke of half time through David Knight after the forward jinked his way in between several defenders before finishing.
Tilbury drew level just after the break as Stowe doubled his and the Dockers tally after 49 minutes.
But parity only lasted six minutes as the visitors upped their game and took the lead once again with Orlando Smith’s corner too hot for Driscoll to handle as it slipped straight into the net.
Aveley made the result safe late on, with Tilbury substitute headed into his own net after confusion between him and Driscoll.
The Millers saved the best till last when Abs Thompson produced a strong run into the box shooting low into the corner of the net.
Aveley: Matt Bennett, Abs Thompson, Andy Howell, Darren Quinton, Tony Russell, Sean Francis, Orlando Smith (Josh Llewellyn 60), Danny Slatter, Kurt Smith, David Knight, Luke Stanley.
