Hanwell Town 0 Aveley 5
AVELEY secured their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Hanwell Town.
The Spartan South Midland side never looked in the game from the off as goals at regular intervals ensured the Millers’ a trip to Ryman Premier side Harlow Town in the next round.
Aveley were missing Nicky Wettner, Bradley Barnes and Sean Thomas from the side that won on Bank Holiday Monday against Thamesmead and their replacements Garry Skerritt, Joel Barnett and Joao Carlos done well in securing the victory.
Carlos was a constant threat to Hanwell backline and Skerritt produced a superb finish for the fourth goal.
The Millers’ took their time in getting going but once they did the result was never in doubt.
Petrit Elbi got the Millers’ off the mark, getting on the end of Ben Bradbury’s ball over the top and the striker paced clear of the home sides defence and rounded keeper Gary Wright to set Aveley rolling.
Hanwell could not find a way past the solid Millers’ defence and their forwards only had scraps to feed on throughout the game.
The Millers’ continued the assault on the Hanwell defence and in particular found joy on the left with Joao Carlos causing torment and it was the winger who doubled the Millers’ lead after he headed Glen Golby’s deep cross in from close range.
Two minutes later and Carlos again caused havoc down the left, dummying his way past several defenders before producing a low by-line cross into the box where Ben Bradbury was ready and waiting to smash into the net.
The only time the Millers’ back four lapsed in the first half almost saw Blaise O’Brian convert when well placed he shot straight into the hands of a gleeful James Marrable.
Come the second half and the home side continued to be second best to everything and the Millers’ could have added a fourth through Joel Barnett but the former YTS at Scunthorpe United’s blazing shot rattled the bar and was eventually cleared by the Town defence.
Aveley continued to bombard the Town defence and after squandering a few chances, they added the fourth and probably the best goal of the game.
After earning a corner, Joao Carlos delivered the ball into the box to find Garry Skerritt who produced a bullet like header past Wright and into the net.
The game was all but over for the home side and with a comfortable lead, the Millers’ relaxed, comfortable passing the ball about and in the dying minutes added a fifth to complete the rout.
This time Elbi turned provider for substitute Wayne Vaughan who produced a looping header into the corner of the net.
All in all, it was a comfortable afternoon works for the Millers’ in what was a potential banana skin for Aveley and they will look forward at testing themselves against Ryman Premier side Harlow in the next round.
But the Millers’ must now go back to concentrating on their league campaign when they travel to Redbridge, who were themselves surprise losers to Uxbridge in the FA Cup.
