Thamesmead Town 2, Aveley 1

Despite a late come back the Millers fell to defeat at Ryman One North hosts Thamesmead Town.
Aveley started the brighter of the two sides and should have taken the lead when Petrit Elbi took advantage of a weak Junior Baker back pass, but shot wide when Martin Tuohy was in a better position.
But it was the home-side that took the lead before the break through with a Millers defensive mistake.
John Maskell gifted the ball to Andy Constable and the striker noticed Ronnie Worster off his line and delicately lobbed the ball into the back of the net.
Aveley could have earned a quick reprieve but Tuohy shot was tipped wide by keeper Steve Northwood.
The home side had much more possession in the second half as Aveley’s play was disrupted by substitutions which eventually led to Thamesmead extending their lead.
Lea Dawson converted from long range with Worster just unable to get his hand to the effort. Tuohy spurned another decent effort as he got on the end of Nicky Symonds header but he hit the post.
The Millers did pull one back as Michael Alaile’s searching cross found Piers Wixon on the edge of the area and he managed to turn and shoot past a diving Northwood.
Aveley searched for a late leveller but it was the home side that went closest as Calib Kamara-Taylor’s effort squirmed from underneath Worster's grasp but he was able to gather at the second time of asking.
