Millers defeated after two goals in stoppage time gave Chesham the victory.

Off the back of a draw away at Plainmoor against Torquay United and a 3-1 victory over league title favourites Dorking Wanderers, the Millers came into the game flying high, but so did Chesham. The hosts were coming off the back of two away victories and searching for their first victory at home in the National South this season.

The opening exchanges were even with Avelety having a corner within three minutes which was just over the head of central defender Harry Gibbs. Inside ten minutes it was the hosts who had two chances, the first saw Mitchell Weiss break the offside trap but was denied by the legs of Carey Bloedorn when the Chesham forward looked set to score. Moments later Weiss almost did open the scoring as he closed down a kick from Carey, it cannoned off of Weiss and looped over the crossbar.

Ten minutes on the clock and it was the Millers who took the lead. Razzaq Coleman De-Graft received the ball on the right hand side before cutting in and firing at goal, the keeper got a hand to it but could only tip it onto the post before it rolled across the line. Chesham 0-1 Aveley.

From that moment on the hosts began to force themselves into the game and pushed Aveley further back and deeper towards their own goal. Wave after wave of Chesham attacks ended with great last ditch blocks from the Aveley defence.

In the 30th minute the hosts should have made their dominance count. The ball ended up with Joe Grant six yards from goal, but under pressure from Alex Kpakpe, somehow put the ball a whisker wide of the left hand post.

Not long after the hosts almost levelled again, a ball into the back post found Weiss who was denied by a point-blank save from Carey Bloedorn who managed to get enough on it to take it behind for a corner.

Into first half stoppage time and Chesham were awarded a penalty after Carey Bloedorn was adjudged to have taken down Omar Rowe. The penalty was taken and Carey made the first save to deny the spot-kick but got back down again to save the follow up with Harry Beadle then hooking out for a corner kick, which was cleared to keep Aveley ahead into the break.

HALF TIME: CHESHAM UNITED 0-1 AVELEY.
Into the second half and a change of formation for Aveley to try and change the course of the game. The formation change worked and Aveley limited Chesham to a few crosses into the box but nothing the back-line couldn’t deal with.

In the 64th minute of the match, Aveley doubled their lead. David Kawa down the left hand side of the pitch, looked as if he tried to pick out Charlee Hughes in the middle of the box, but his cross-cum-shot found the top left hand corner of the net perfectly. Chesham 0-2 Aveley.

The Millers started to look comfortable and almost made it 3-0 soon after, Razzaq Coleman De-Graft with a great run centred towards Charlee Hughes who was an inch away from getting on the end of it and finishing the game off.

That half-chance came back to haunt The Millers as two minutes later the hosts got their lifeline and way back into the match. A corner into the box wasn’t cleared, it landed to Connor Stevens who could not miss and slammed the ball home into the roof of the net. Chesham 1-2 Aveley.

Chesham continued to up the pressure in the last fifteen minutes, with striker Nathan Minhas having his shot blocked by Jason Ring for a corner. The corner found the head of Jack Cawley who saw it graze the crossbar after a great unchallenged run to the front post saw him make the connection but a let off for Aveley.

Millers led going into added time, of which the officials found nine - which added to the pressure and gave the home supporters and players more belief they could get something from the game. Nathan Minhas had a goal disallowed in the 92nd minute, and you could forgive everyone associated with Aveley that a penalty save, goal disallowed you would start to believe it was your day, but it was not meant to be.

A minute later and Chesham United levelled. A long throw into the box from Cawley was half cleared to the edge of the area where a shot from the edge went through all the bodies and found the right hand side of the goal. Chesham United 2-2 Aveley.

Only a minute later with Chesham’s tails up, they went in front for the first time in the game. A cross from the right hand side found Rowe with the freedom of The Meadow and Chesham who put the shot into the bottom left hand corner of the goal to complete a remarkable turnaround for the hosts. Chesham United 3-2 Aveley.

FULL TIME: CHESHAM UNITED 3-2 AVELEY.
