Five goals from the Millers and a win which strangely is as many goals as we scored in our last victory over Wroxham last month away from home. The clean sheet against Boro last night was also the clubs first in 13 matches, since our 2-0 triumph away at Thamesmead Town.

Millers started on the front foot and Billy Holland was rolling back the years, leading the line had a goal disallowed on five minutes. Liam Nash had two attempts before it was saved by Gooch, it landed to Holland but the flag was up just before he stuck it away in the back of the net.

The only booking of the match came on 20 minutes, Arian Retkoceri was booked for a late tackle on Luke Stanley.

The deadlock was almost booked in controversial fashion. Luke Stanley was off the pitch after the effects of the tackle from Retkoceri, left him needing treatment. Over 60 seconds passed and the referee didn’t wave the ex-Aveley man back on the pitch for Romford. The Millers attacked but Liam Nash was denied by a great bloke from Frew.

From the resulting corner the Millers won another as it was well defended at the back by Nick Reynolds. From that corner Matt Frew unchallenged headed past his own keeper into the back of the net to give Aveley the lead. Romford 0-1 Aveley.

Luke Stanley was Romford’s bright spark in the match down the wings, he cut inside of Jamie Dicks and saw his well low struck shot well saved by James Marrable as he stretched down low to keep it out of the back of the net.

Five minutes before half time the Millers doubled their lead. The ball was headed down by Billy Holland to Liam Nash who on the volley, controlled it into the bottom corner for his sixth league goal of the campaign. Romford 0-2 Aveley.

Romford were denied a route back into the match straight after half time, a smart save from James Marrable denied Cossington a goal from 10 yards out.

For the next ten minutes, Paul Preston was sneaking down the right hand side, and after many warnings, Romford just didn’t get tight enough on him. Lee Prescott played it out wide to Paul Preston who ran to the byline, crossed into the middle for Billy Holland to tap home from close range, to really end the game as a content. Romford 0-3 Aveley.

Only a minute after, Aveley added a fourth. Liam Nash again the man to score, one on one with Matt Frew, Nashy cut inside and buried past Gooch with his left foot into the bottom corner. Romford 0-4 Aveley.

Romford came back into the match and honestly they should’ve scored at least four, with simple chances. Cossington was first to have a go as he saw his left footed shot flash past Marrable and hitting the base of the post.

Romford broke clean through the Aveley offside trap, three against Marrable, Mckenzie squared it to Reynolds who missed the whole target from no more than six yards out.

Only a minute later it was McKenzie’s turn to drop a clanger. Great cross in from the right hand side landed to McKenzie unmarked with a free header, but he somehow put it wide of the up right.

With all those simple chances that could’ve made it 4-3. The Millers instead made it 5-0. Billy Holland tried to dink Johnny Ashman through on goal but it was blocked, it fell back to Billy Holland, who rifled in his second of the match from 25 yards out. Romford 0-5 Aveley.

Romford had another easy opportunity. McKenzie’s shot from a narrow angle hit the post and landed to Burgess, unmarked on the six-yard box, he hit it, but it lacked any real power and James Marrable was able to palm it away.

The worst miss of the night came as Marrable was seized upon on the edge of the area by Joe Scott, he won the ball of Marrable (who was left on the floor), and with the whole goal to aim at, Scott cleared the crossbar.

Aveley almost scored a sixth as James Peagram was denied by a smart fingertip save from Gooch, and from the resulting corner Tarryn Allarakhia nodded just wide of the target from the back post.
