Holland last gasp goal ends wait for win

Aveley Football Club

The Millers got back to winning ways with a superb 2-1 win away at a really tough Waltham Abbey.

It was clear to see that this match would be a lot tougher than the table had suggest. With the Millers in 11th place and Waltham Abbey third bottom, with only 2 wins in last 10, it proved to be a really well contested match.

Millers were on top at the start, Alex Teniola playing a key role in all that was good. He had the first chance of the game but just curled one past the post.

Chances in the first half were few and far between but both teams just wanted to play football, which was great attitude due to the weather caused from the night before the match.

Billy Holland and Alex Teniola combined for the latter to shot with his back to goal which went just over the bar.

Abbey almost carved a chance into the game but the ball just got away from Russell inside the area and out for a goal kick.

Millers were next to go close, an Ahmed Deen corner was drifted into the back post, met by Junior Baker who headed just wide of the goal.

Three minutes before half time, Lentell cut in from the right hand side but saw his shot cleared off the line from Junior Baker.

Half Time- Waltham Abbey 0-0 Aveley FC.

It was the hosts that took the lead. Michael Pindy caused all sorts of problems throughout the entire match. He cut in from the right hand side, and fired into the bottom corner past James Marrable. Abbey 1-0 Millers.

Abbey could've and maybe should've extended their lead. Coke smashed just wide of the goal from the edge of the area. Moments later he was denied by a wonderful finger tipped save from James Marrable.

Millers stepped it up and got the deserved equaliser. The ball was put into a dangerous area, it bobbled inside the six yard box and Billy Holland pounced to head home. Abbey 1-1 Millers.

Michael Pindy went close again but was denied by the immense and ever reliable, James Marrable. Russell then went closer in the 89th minute, with a header from a narrow angle hitting the outside of the post.

With the last kick of the game the Millers grabbed all three points. Substitute Tarryn Allarakhia closed down the Abbey keeper, he miss-cleared it to Billy Holland who placed his shot perfectly into the corner. Abbey 1-2 Millers.

Full Time- Waltham Abbey 1-2 Aveley FC.
