It was for sure a great day at the office for an Aveley side who were looking for revenge from the reverse fixture earlier on in the season where it ended with Phoenix Sports winning 4-2 at Mill Field.
Despite the 3-0 full time score it was actually the hosts who started the brightest with back to back corners which ended in a shot at goal from Goodchild but it was simple for new goalkeeper Bobby Mason who joined recently due to the injury that James Marrable suffered during the week at Heybridge Swifts.
Jamie Mascoll was the next to have a few flashes at goal, in quick succession, but both of his long ranged efforts were well away from the target.
After the tenth minute of the match, the Millers started to force their control onto the match. Michael Pindy was a thorn in the hosts side for the whole match and he almost opened the scoring when he cut inside and fired a shot towards goal, Brown fumbled, but it was cleared away well by the covering defenders.
The deadlock was broken and it was Alex Teniola on his comeback from his three-match suspension who opened his account for 2016 just after quarter of an hour at Phoenix’s Sports Ground. Abs Seymour pushed down the wing, his cross took a deflection on it’s way towards the six yard box. Alex Teniola pushed past his defender and tapped the ball past Brown into the back of the net. (1-0).
Phoenix Sports came back with two glorious chances but just couldn’t take them. Mascoll did well down the left hand side, his cross flashed across the six yard box, and somehow forward Stone couldn’t get any connection on it.
The Millers came straight back and should’ve doubled their lead. Liam Nash got into the box seemed to sneak his ball past the keeper but it was cleared off the line by Andrews, the follow up was then eventually smothered away for a corner. However, the corner was cleared easily as Andrews again headed away, this time under no pressure.
Up to the half, Aveley should’ve really put the game out of site of the hosts. Liam Nash’s right footed shot was saved well by Brown as he dived to his top right and impressively held the ball. Michael Pindy was set free but somehow couldn’t get a proper connection on the lobbed attempt with Brown rushing out off of his line.
With one minute added on time Phoenix Sports had two great chances inside the Millers six yard box, but the ball just wouldn’t fall properly for Stone nor Mascoll to get a connection on it to pull the scores level going into halftime.
Half Time- Phoenix Sports 0-1 Aveley FC
Millers started the second half brilliantly and within a minute almost scored as Michael Pindy crossed into the six yard box and it was cleared just past the post for a corner for Phoenix Sports.
It only took a further five minutes until the Millers doubled their lead. A ball into the box was nodded down by centre half Spencer Harrison to Arian Retkoceri, the latter touched down and poked it home with his left foot into the bottom corner. (2-0)
Throughout the next fifteen minutes Phoenix Sports made changes and tried to change the direction of the match. Freeman came on and within a few minutes found himself on the edge of the Millers penalty area but he lashed at the shot and it went straight over the bar.
Phoenix Sports’ other substitution Pattison showed his blistering pace as he ran straight at the heart of the Miller's defence but his pass to the right hand side was just overhit for a goal kick to the Millers.
With 20 minutes remaining the Millers ended the contest completely with a third. Arian Retkoceri at the heart of it, he slipped in Michael Pindy who passed the ball across the goal and Liam Nash popped up at the back post to tap in for his third in 4 matches this 2016.
Aveley introduced new signing Les Thompson coming on with 15 minutes to go. Johnny Ashman and Reece Conway also made an appearance coming on for Arian Retkoceri and Michael Pindy.
The final chance of the match fell to the Millers top scorer Liam Nash, he rounded the keeper, shot but again for the second time in this match he was denied by a goal-line clearance.
