One of the toughest games that we'll face this season in promotion favourites Cheshunt and unfortunately we left ourselves too much to do as a Billy Jones double was enough to defeat the Millers, but we dominated the second half and should've really taken a point out of this match.
The first half didn't go to plan at all for us as Cheshunt started it much the better team and if it wasn't for Millers keeper Lamar Johnson then this game could've very much been out of sight before half time.
Millers new signing George Woodward announced himself at Mill Field with an emphatic tackle but unfortunately earned himself a yellow card after 60 seconds into his debut.
Cheshunt took the lead through Billy Jones, who has so far been unbelievable this season bagging his ninth goal of the campaign. A cross into the box wasn't dealt with by the Millers defence and Billy Jones hooked it into the net. Aveley 0-1 Cheshunt.
Abs Seymour came so close to equalising but his free-kick 20 yards out cracked the crossbar after Sherwin Stanley was fouled by Kizzi.
Cheshunt had the chance to double their lead from the penalty spot as Jason Hallett was brought down by Lamar Johnson after the Cheshunt target man ran through towards goal. But Lamar Johnson saved superbly as he got down to his right hand side to keep it out.
Few minutes later Jason Hallett had another chance as he recieved the ball from 12 yards out but he blasted his shot over the Millers bar.
But on the 30 minute mark Cheshunt did indeed double their lead it was that man Billy Jones who tapped in from inside our penalty area for his tenth and Ryman North favourites Cheshunt's second. Aveley 0-2 Cheshunt.
That goal kicked us into life but we still just couldn't generate chances to get us really back into this game. Taylor Tombides came on for his debut and replaced Jordan Peart with ten minutes left in the first half.
A mix of Lamar Johnson and Michael Finneran combined to just about keep out Liam Hope's shot from short range as the ball was scrambled to safety to keep the deficit only by two.
Half Time | Aveley 0-2 Cheshunt.
Cheshunt started the second half like the ended the first, very much on top but we worked our way back into the game and a nice back post volley into the net by debutante Taylor Tombides brought us right back into this match and completely on top. Aveley 1-2 Cheshunt.
We had plenty of chances to equalise but we just couldn't convert our chances to give us what would've been a well deserved point in truth.
The game of course opened up as we started to really go for it throwing bodies forward and somehow the scoreline wasn't added to as both sides squandered great chances in the second half.
The Millers probably should've been awarded a penalty late on, but advantage was played and unfortunately we missed the chance.
A spirited fightback from the Millers in the second but the performance in the first half left us with too much to do in the end, next up is another tough match at home to Great Wakering Rovers.
