Goalless at Chadfields

Goalless at Chadfields

Aveley Football Club

A dominant second half display almost got the Millers all three points, but in the end gained a point and clean sheet.

In what was a dreary wet day Tilbury and Aveley battled it out at Chadfields and both ended with a share of the spoils which in the end neither team really deserved to lose the match.

The Millers handed debuts to both Dan Odamo and more recent signing Michael Toner for this local derby and both impressed.

It was the hosts who had the best of the first half and started the brightest. A rasping effort from Toby Aromolaran smacked Tommy Spillane and cleared away from Dan Odamo.

Millers Captain Lamar Johnson had a superb all round game as he held on to every cross, shot towards goal in difficult conditions and he was out well to smother the ball at the feet of Neil Richmond.

The front two for the Millers combined well which saw Daniel McCullock found Jeremiah Maja with a pass around the corner of the defence but Maja's effort was deflected out for a corner. From that resulting corner it was recycled back out wide to Jack Edwards who found Dan Odamo who also saw his shot blocked on its way goal bound, but easily saved by Lee Butcher in the Tilbury goal.

Daniel McCullock found himself picking up his second yellow card of the season after he pulled back Danny Norton.

Lamar Johnson was called into action on the 35 minute mark, he got down low and to his right to deny Neil Richmond his fifth goal of the season. Neil was Tilbury's main attacking threat as both Kurt Smith and Emiel Aiken are both recovering from injury.

Joe Clark was next to pick up his first yellow card of the season after he was penalised after a late tackle on Neil Richmond. Lewis Jaggs took the resulting free-kick from close range but he put it well over the crossbar.

Half Time | Tilbury 0-0 Aveley.

The Millers had the best of the second half at Chadfields and were really unlucky not to take all three points.

Jeremiah Maja had the ball in the back of the net five minutes into the second half after latching onto a Dan Odamo header. Unfortunately it was ruled out after a very late flag denying the Millers the lead.

Debutante Michael Toner had a shot which was blocked and fell to Daniel McCullock who fired towards the goal but was a comfortable save from Lee Butcher.

The effort of the game came from Daniel McCullock as he was spectacularly denied by a combination of the crossbar and Butcher's fingertips after a brilliant shot from Danny. The Millers were definitely unlucky not to be in front.

We had a couple of other half chances which saw Jack Edwards effort fly wide of the right hand post, and moments later Gaz Dauti and Michael Toner set up Jeremiah Maja who fizzed an effort inches past the left hand post.

In the last few moments of the game both Joe Clarke and Lamar Johnson defending superbly to guarantee the Millers the superb battling point, the least we deserved from the match after our second half dominance.
