On the whole the Millers looked tired and after a commanding performance against the league leaders to see them off easily 3-0, we just couldn't get that same level of performance to defeat Thurrock.
Millers started the match on top, Billy Coyne almost set free Jeremiah Maja with a nice through ball but Maja just couldn't get on the end of it. Long throw from Coyney was nodded behind by Winn, and from that corner Dan Odamo looked to have a free header, but a late shove on him put him in the back of the net.
Thurrock came back into the match and had the better of the chances. Jordan Clark went through on goal but Lamar Johnson was out terrifically to smother the ball.
The Millers really should've taken the lead on 30 minutes, all Adalberto Pinto's cross needed was a touch, it fell to Jeremiah Maja who seemed to just air kick straight over the top of the ball from a couple of yards out.
Michael Pindy as we all know used his explosive pace to carve open a chance for Fleet, it fell to Harry Cook who blazed over the bar from close range. Moments later Jordan Clark created his own chance but his goal bound effort was blocked by his own player Harry Cook.
Half Time | Aveley 0-0 Thurrock.
Millers continued to do their best to create opportunities and it came from crossing opportunities from Adalberto Pinto again, he whipped on a teasing ball which was fumbled by another ex-Miller Bobby Mason and scrambled away by another ex-Miller in Perry Dunn!
Perry Dunn almost came back to haunt his old club as he connected with a teasing cross and saw his headed effort graze the top of the crossbar.
Michael Toner surged into the Thurrock box and was taken down, but claims for a penalty were waved away very quickly.
The best bit of the game saw Lamar Johnson pull out the save of the season so far. Skill and effort combined by Michael Pindy curled a shot destined for the top corner, but that was matched with a sublime save as Millers captain Lamar Johnson tipped the effort over the bar.
Another long ranger effort from Harry Cook was comfortable from Lamar Johnson who deserved a clean sheet, which would've been his third in a row.
The game looked to be petering to a 0-0 stalemate especially after a brilliant tackle from Millers left back Joe Clark after he denied Thurrock substitute from tapping into an empty net after Tommy Spillane was fouled by Perry Dunn. However Joe Clark was penalised and Glenn Poole stepped up and found the top corner from 12 yards. Aveley 0-1 Thurrock.
The Millers went up the other end and Jeremiah Maja sprinted into the box, his back leg was taken out by Remi Sutton but Millers claims for a penalty were waved away, again.
Michael Toner was booked after a late tackle from a Thurrock player came through the back of Michael, but as he reacted to the poor challenge he was booked and the referee awarded Thurrock the free-kick deep into stoppage time.
Jack Edwards was also booked later in stoppage time after trying to get the ball from Michael Pindy who held the ball in the corner flag to hang onto the three points.
Full Time | Aveley 0-1 Thurrock.
