Back to back home wins

Jamie Manktelow

A real dominant and controlled performance from the Millers was enough to see off relegation threatened Soham Town Rangers.

Last week we had the worst possible start at Maldon & Tiptree after conceding inside the first minute.

But this time round back at Mill Field we got off to a sensational start, Jeremiah Maja played in by Ross Gleed cut in on his right foot and beautifully curled his effort past the Soham Town Rangers to give Aveley the perfect start. Aveley 1-0 Soham.

The lead couldn't been very short lived if it wasn't for a smart Lamar Johnson save. Cross put into the side yard box to Cemal Ramadan who passed the ball towards the goal, but Lamar Johnson reacted superbly to deny relegation threatened Soham an equaliser.

It was a real energetic opening from both sides and you'd have thought plenty of goals were to follow but that wasn't the case. Hussain Jaffa met a Billy Coyne free kick but could only direct the ball away from the goal rather than towards as the big man continued from last game to be a threat in the opposition area.

Soham weren't without their chances, as Cemal Ramadan raced through but missed the target all together as it went out for a throw in.

Billy Coyne came close from a free-kick it may have been a cross but Conroy in the Soham goal had to back peddle and tip it over superbly.

George Woodward was next to carve open an opportunity for Jordan Peart at the back post but under immense pressure he headed over the bar.

Soham were next to come close as Gardner tried some acrobatic finish but saw his effort effortlessly cleared away by Dan Odamo.

The impressive Ross Gleed was next to set up an opportunity for the equally impressive Jeremiah Maja but he saw his effort saved by the legs of Niall Conroy as he continued to keep it a one goal game.

The visitors then claimed for a penalty near the end of the first half. Sam Mulready went through on goal, put his shot wide of the goal and then sprinted into Lamar Johnson and claimed for a penalty, waved away by the referee.

The last play of the half was full of quality for both sides. Jordan Peart did well to put in a cross to Mason Bloomfield who headed it brilliantly towards the top corner, but Conroy matched it with a quite brilliant save keeping the visitors in it.

Half Time | Aveley 1-0 Soham.

The second half was quite a comfortable one for the Millers as we dominated the ball for large parts.

Despite that control, Cemal Ramadan had a chance again as he tried to curl it in from the edge of the area but Lamar Johnson was on hand to save.

The game slow down in the way of chances which saw Adalberto Pinto and Jeremiah Maja into the referees book with late fouls.

Jordan Peart was lively throughout the game but his effort was denied by a great save at the near post. A minute later Peart again was causing Soham problems, he pulled it back for Mason Bloomfield who was again denied by Conroy.

Mason Bloomfield was again left frustrated as his header from a Ross Gleed corner clipped the top of the crossbar and went over the bar. Just before that a superb run from Jeremiah Maja found Peart whose effort was scrabled away for a corner.

It was almost a debut to remember for Wale Odedoyin as after 10 seconds of him coming onto the pitch he saw him through on goal and fired an inch just wide of the right hand post.

Jeremiah Maja was unlucky not to get more goals in this game, along with Bloomfield and Peart as Niall Conroy continued to pull off good amount of saves.

But finally the second goal came on the 75th minute. Ross Gleed whipped in a great set-piece for Dan Odamo who thundered in his header which finally killed the game off. Aveley 2-0 Soham.

Billy Coyne had the last chance of the game as he tried his luck from 25 yards out, but it was superbly finger-tipped over the bar from Conroy.
