The game started with a couple of good chances, on another night Jack Barry could've had four or five goals with some of the headed chances he had as he was first to have an attempt towards goal, but his header was just wide.

The visitors had shots in quick succession as ex-Miller Nathan Koranteng fired over the bar from long range, and Timothy Monsheju had his effort comfortably saved by Rhys Madden.

Adam Bolle was sent through on goal and latched onto a long pass but saw his chipped effort go away from goal and out for a goal kick.

After fifteen minutes the visitors had the ball in the back of the net, but Usman Adeniji, re-signed from Hornchurch over the summer, was denied by the offside flag.

The first substitution of the game came on the 22nd minute after Paul Preston rolled his ankle, he was replaced by Michael Osei, who played for Witham Town last season.

The visitors long-throws from Lance Akins caused a couple of problems which saw; Patrick Ahern stab an effort goal-wards, but it lacked any real pace to beat Rhys Madden. Lewis Payne had a chance on the edge of the area but saw his chested then volleyed effort clear the crossbar.

Five minutes before half-time and the Millers should've been in front. A corner came in from George Woodward, which was met by Jack Barry but it was deflected for another corner, and carbon copy to the previous one, it was met by Jack Barry who headed it just wide of the goal.

Millers started the second half well and the first chance fell to Ross Gleed. Jack Barry pulled it back across the box to Gleed whose shot was saved by Witham keeper Lewis Moore.

Lewis Moore was in action a few minutes later after he theatrically denied a brilliant effort from Harry Gibbs.

Jordan Watson was the second change to be more and he injected pace into the attack and forced a corner after a searching ball by Michael Osei. The corner came into Jack Barry who again was so unlucky as his header went wide by a whisker.

The visitors almost made us pay after Sam Ashford hit the post, it was followed up by Lance Akins who headed over the bar from six yards out. It was definitely a warning, which six minutes later became reality.

Elliot Ronto was found by a pass which cut open our defence, his first effort was saved by Rhys Madden, but Ronto followed up his own shot and found the bottom corner putting the hosts ahead. Aveley 0-1 Witham Town.

Ten minutes from time Millers Boss Terry Spillane played his last card as Jack West came on for Christy O'Donoghue.

Adalberto Pinto had a snapshot blocked in the 89th minute which went out for a corner but the corner was well caught by Lewis Moore.

In the 95th minute of the game, the breakthrough for the Millers arrived. Corner in from George Woodward was met by the head of Jack West who brought the Millers level. Aveley 1-1 Witham.

The crowd were fantastic and that atmosphere lifted the players to get us our first win at our amazing new stadium. The ball was won back played into Jack West, he flicked it on to Jordan Watson who ran through and buried it past Lewis Moore to send the crowd into raptures. Aveley 2-1 Witham.
