After such a brilliant game on against Witham on the previous Friday, it was a disappointing performance from the Millers, in the end losing 4-2.
It was an entertaining first half which saw Aveley dominate the opening stages with a couple of dangerous balls into the box, but they were defended well by a well organised looking Grays side.
Grays had some great chances after good work from Jamie Slabber, he first set up Kiernan Hughes-Mason but he fired over the bar. Adeyinka Cole then broke through on goal but he also fired over the bar.
Kieran Bishop had a couple of wonderful chances throughout the first half, but first he fired it off his right foot which went out for a goal kick. And the second he came off his marker at the back post where he was found by a free-kick but his effort was over the bar.
The breakthrough came in the 20th minute, a lovely through ball from Ross Gleed found Michael Osei, who made his first start for the Millers, he rounded Lamar Johnson and tapped into the empty net to send us in front. Grays 0-1 Aveley.
Grays pulled back on level terms as a cross wasn't cleared away, it landed to Joao Carlos who buried it from 12 yards out. Grays 1-1 Aveley.
A draw at half-time would've been great for the Millers but Grays pressed, and when four minutes added of time came, Grays had more chances. Jamie Slabber saw his header well saved by Rhys Madden.
But as we went into the fourth minute of the time added on, Michael Osei was adjudged to have fouled Joao Carlos who fell a couple of feet outside the box, the linesmen looked to have given a free-kick, but the referee didn't hesitate in pointing to the spot, one for the video replay! Kieran Bishop stepped up and sent Madden the wrong way to put the tenants ahead. Grays 2-1 Aveley.
Half Time | Grays 2-1 Aveley.
The Millers struggled to create much for the first 20 minutes of the second half, and Grays continued to get on top and in full control of the game. Jordan Watson got in on goal but was denied well by Lamar Johnson as he came out well to deny his former team for getting level.
With twenty minutes remaining a freak goal ended the contest. Glen Wilson volleyed from the edge of the area and saw his lob inexplicably left by Rhys Madden and somehow loop into the Millers goal. Grays 3-1 Aveley.
Michael Osei seemed to have pulled a goal back for the Millers, but he was adjudged as offside after great work from Adalberto Pinto.
Soon afer Grays added their fourth. a poor back-pass fell straight to Kiernan Hughes-Mason who then rounded the keeper and stroked the ball in. Grays 4-1 Aveley.
The last action of the game came for the landlords, Jack West was taken down by Perry Dunn and the referee didn't hesitate in pointing to the spot. Adam Bolle stepped up and buried emphatically into the roof of the net.
