Aveley changed from their usual blue and played in specially commissioned pink shirts as the game was played in aid of Breast Cancer Research. A bumper crowd were treated to a repeat of last weeks Trophy result with the Millers running out 2-0 winners.
The first clear opening of the match fell to Joao Carlos who shot wide of the right hand post with quarter of an hour on the clock. Carlos had another opportunity 15 minutes later. He collected a pass from Wayne Vaughan on the edge of the penalty area but his shot was saved by Ilford keeper Rob Budd.
Five minutes later The Foxes had claims for a penalty turned down after Chuck Duru went down after a challenge. Within minutes Duru had a golden chance to give Ilford the lead after a defensive muddle but the striker scuffed his shot and James Marrable gratefully collected the loose ball.
Six minutes into the second half it was that man Duru again, this time with a one on one with Marrable. The Millers’ keeper making a good save.
Aveley’s opener came a minute later when Vaughan headed in Joao Carlos’ left side corner. Four minutes later Vaughan was on the score sheet again as Millers were awarded a penalty against Ilford for the second week running. The spot kick went to Budd’s right as the keeper seemed to be expecting a shot straight down the middle.
Ilford then went on the attack with Danny Berg getting in a good shot from 20 yards out which was comfortably saved by Marrable. Chris Thomas also tested the Aveley keeper without any reward.
After 70 minutes a long cross was met by Carlos who hit the post with a close range effort that came off of the wingers thigh.
Five minutes later Ilford were lucky not to be three goals down. A goalmouth scramble was eventually cleared.
