Aveley 3 East Thurrock 1
By Craig Quantock.
Garry Skerritt saw his low drive go narrowly wide, before Petrit Elbi grabbed the lead after 15 minutes, rounding two Thurrock defenders and coolly lifting the ball past Wray. Thurrock’s chances were rare, a stark contrast to Millers, who were consistently denied by Wray at the other end. He was eventually undone by his own defence, Luke Hall turning a well-struck drive by Skerritt past his own keeper on 41 minutes.
Wray twice denied Thomas early in the second half, before Elbi made it three after 59 minutes, latching onto the end of a long through ball, to once again round Wray and slot home. Boyce’s 79th minute free kick gave Thurrock a consolation goal.
With Ware only grabbing a last minute draw away at Wingate and Finchley, Millers climbed to the top of the table, one point ahead of their Hertfordshire rivals.
There are now only three teams with unbeaten league records within steps 1-4 of the pyramid. Durham City of the Unibond Div.1 North and Leamington of the BGB Midlands Div. who yesterday gave Atherstone Town their first league defeat of the season.
