Millers' keep up championship chase

Millers' keep up championship chase

Colin Munford

Elbi and Thomas give Aveley 10th consecutive away victory

Leyton 0, Aveley 2

SEAN THOMAS’s late strike sealed Aveley’s tenth consecutive away win and keeps their championship bid in full flight.
The second half sub popped up with ten minutes to go to confirm the victory which keeps top spot fully in their sight.
The Millers’ without the injured striker Neil Richmond, got off to the perfect start when Junior Dadson’s cross-cum-shot found Petrit Elbi free in the box and the striker slotted into an empty net .
Leyton looked dangerous on the attack and had several chances to draw level, with the best of the chances falling to Robert Carter, who saw his shot across goal narrowly evade the post.
Matt Johnson and Bryan Hammatt also went close for the visitors before the break.
As the second half progressed, it looked more and more likely that the hosts were going to get back into it, and James Marrable had to be on top form to deny Carter twice in quick succession.
But Sean Thomas, on for Bryan Hammatt, proved the undoing of the Lilywhites’ defence.
After spurning the opportunity to shoot first time he laid it back to fellow sub Bradley Barnes whose shot was only blocked by home keeper Elliot Justham and Thomas fired in the rebound from the tightest of angles.
Aveley could have added a third late but Mitch Hahn’s free kick went agonisingly over the bar.
Aveley: James Marrable, Ryan Doyle, Sam Holloway, Matt Johnson, Richard Ketchell, Sean Francis, Mitch Hahn, Garry Skerritt (Christian Wheeler 41), Petrit Elbi, Bryan Hammatt (Sean Thomas 67), Junior Dadson (Bradley Barnes 76).
Subs not used: Joao Carlos, John Maskell.
