Aveley lose out once again

Colin Munford1 Nov 2011 - 08:22

Aveley 0 Hastings United 1

Aveley’s woes increased as they slipped to another loss at the hands of managerless Hastings United last night.
In truth it was a poor and uneventful match with little between the two sides, only for the visitors to have the killer instinct in front of goal that the Millers lacked.
In the first half, Jordan Woodley’s free kick was straight at goalkeeper Dave McCartney, while Hastings also had a goal ruled out for offside.
For the home side, the closest they came to breaking the deadlock was Sherwin Stanley’s curling ball into the box from the right wing which found the head of Danny Hockton but his effort fell onto the roof of the net.
Again the second half was devoid of much action, with confusion amongst the Millers defence almost giving Hastings the lead after 53 minutes when McCartney failed to gather, but Kenny Pogue’s ball back into the box was cleared.
A minute later Ellis Remy nodded Sean Bonnett-Johnson’s left wing cross wide of the mark, but that was as good as it got for the hosts as with the only bit of quality in the match saw Hastings go in front.
Zac Attwood’s great ball in to Lee Carey was slotted past McCartney low to his near post and with that you could sense that’d be enough to take the victory.
The Millers did have one chance to draw level in the dying minutes when Joey May’s corner was headed goalwards by Kieron Okungoya but the effort was hacked clear off the line.
