Goalkeeper Jack Giddens did his upmost to keep out his former side but in the end the Millers secured their second consecutive league away win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Tooting & Mitcham.
Carl Griffiths’ side had plenty of possession and opportunities in the opening period, but had to settle for a slender lead going into the break.
Giddens firstly denied Sherwin Stanley with a one-handed save while Daryl Robson , skipper Micah Hyde and Ellis Remy also went close for the Mill Field side, while loanee Harry Milton struck the outside of the post as Millers were unfortunate not to break the deadlock earlier.
But they finally took the lead when Robson’s shot came back off the underside of the bar and Sherwin Stanley was quickest to react to the loose ball to head home in the 32nd minute.
After the break Giddens was forced into a double stop as he kept the Terrors in the match, with Ellis Remy going close.
But substitute Daniel Francis gave Aveley the comfort of a two-goal lead on the 78-minute mark - something they would later need - as he produced a mazy run into the box, with little challenge from the home side and Francis made no mistake from 10 yards out.
With their first real opportunity in the match, the Imperial Fields side pulled one back when Lee Newman turned and shot past keeper Dave Hogan to set up an anxious few minutes.
And the hosts almost did pull level late on but substitute Andre McCollin wasted the opportunity as Aveley picked up a much-needed three points.
