Wingate came from two goals down to secure a draw against the Millers.
Aveley welcomed back a former Miller, Max Jallow in their team at right back after he completed the move last week, with Donovan Wilson currently in South Africa and Ryan Andrews injured.
But Carl Griffiths’ charges started the match promisingly, and after dominating the early proceedings, duly went in front.
Experienced keeper Gavin King failed to deal with a delivery into the box from the right wing and Spencer Harrison had the simplest of tasks to tap in and give Aveley the lead with a quarter of an hour gone
They continued their dominance and Reece Morgan doubled the Millers advantage seven minutes later, when the midfielder capitalised on a poor clearance from Wingate to smash the ball past King and into the bottom left corner from outside the area.
But, as the often say, you are at your weakest just after scoring, and that proved the case as Wingate struck back within a minute.
John Megicks found Ahmet Rifat who delivered the ball into Leon Smith who made no mistake with the finish, firing low under Dave Hogan.
Rifat missed an opportunity to level for the hosts but with just the defender to beat, he fired it wide, while at the other end Ellis Remy was denied by a smart save from King when he looked certain to score.
After the break, the hosts were on top, and the substitution of Ola Williams seemed to make the difference for Wingate.
His first contribution was to find Tony Burke at the back post but Hogan was on hand to deny.
But Hogan for all his good work gifted the hosts a point 10 minutes from time.
Williams’ cross was flicked on by Dave Laird and although Hogan gathered, he inexplicably took a step back to avoid getting knocked by the loitering Smith and took the ball with him,
Rifat could have given the hosts all three points late on, but his header was saved by Hogan.
Now the Millers will travel to Canvey Island in the League Cup on Tuesday night, hoping for a repeat performance from the earlier league encounter between the two sides, where Aveley came away with a 3-0 win.
