Millers not so Jolly

Colin Munford

Richard Jolly at the double to down Aveley

Richard Jolly bagged two to help Wealdstone to a comfortable victory over Aveley.
Jolly brought the game to life after a quiet opening, firing Lee Chappell’s left-wing cross into the net from eight yards out past exposed home keeper Dave McCartney.
The striker could have doubled their lead only seven minutes later when one-on-one with McCartney, but the stopper came out and thwarted the former Sutton United and Carshalton man.
The Millers rallied before the break with chances for skipper Micah Hyde and Gary Wharton but both were off target.
After the break Wealdstone keeper Jonathan North denied Sean Bonnett-Johnson with a fine save from a 30-yard effort, and with that missed opportunity, Wealdstone made the hosts pay on 67 minutes when David Hicks latched onto a through ball and shot low past McCartney.
Any lingering hope of an Aveley comeback was extinguished when Jolly netted his second of the match.
The prolific marksman supplied another clinical finish after Spencer Harrison’s attempted clearance cannoned into his path and he made no mistake with his effort.
Aveley did have chances late in the match to through Ellis Remy and Donovan Wilson but it proved too little, too late for the Millers to get anything from the clash.
Aveley: Dave McCartney, Donovan Wilson, Harry Milton, Tony Russell, Spencer Harrison, Lewis Warren, Abs Thompson (Sherwin Stanley 62), Micah Hyde, Gary Wharton (Ellis Remy 69), Danny Hockton, Sean Bonnet-Johnson (Charlie Read 69).
