A first half strike from Scott Mitchell was enough for Lowestoft to overcome 10-man and managerless Aveley.
It was the visitors who started the brighter of the two sides and could have taken the lead in the 14th minute when Sean Bonnett-Johnson’s clearance fell straight to Lubomir Guentchev but he shot wide of the target.
But Lowestoft didn’t have to wait much longer before taking the lead as Micah Hyde conceded a foul on the edge of the box and Mitchell’s effort crept into the bottom corner despite the efforts of home keeper Dave McCartney after 23 minutes.
The Millers only real chance of note in the half came when Ricky Manderson attempted to lob visiting keeper Andrew Reynolds but he got back in time to thwart the effort.
After the break, the Millers went close when Evans Kovassi saw his shot deflected behind for a corner before Spencer Harrison was dismissed for his second bookable offence after 51 minutes.
Guentchev sliced another shot wide for Lowestoft, while Chris Henderson also saw an effort across the goal miss the target.
Substitute Daniel Francis had a great chance with three minutes left to give Aveley a share of the spoils when the ball fell to him 30 yards out, but after a mazy run on goal, Reynolds rushed out of his goal and was able to block the effort.
